Launch of an Awareness Campaign with the Participation of University and Institute Students to Promote Energy Conservation

  • The campaign offers awareness activities, competitions, and digital content to support a culture of energy conservation within and beyond the academic community.

  • It aims to enhance energy efficiency and promote sustainability through active student participation.

  • Continuous monitoring and impact assessment of the campaign will be conducted across universities and institutes.

Under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the campaign titled “Save It… Light It” is set to launch this week across universities and institutes. The campaign aims to promote energy conservation and enhance energy efficiency as part of Egypt’s efforts to address the current global energy crisis.

This campaign comes as a continuation of the Minister’s directives to activate the role of universities and institutes in rationalizing energy consumption. Key measures include reducing fuel consumption in university transportation, using energy-efficient lighting, expanding the use of solar energy units, and implementing disciplined practices for lighting usage in lecture halls and classrooms.

The Minister emphasized that energy conservation is a shared national responsibility, stressing the importance of continuous follow-up and impact measurement to ensure the campaign’s objectives are achieved and sustained.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry, explained that the campaign seeks to activate the role of university students in promoting energy-saving practices both on campus and at home. By raising awareness among students, the campaign contributes to changing energy consumption behaviors within their families and social circles, as students play a key role in spreading awareness messages across different segments of society.

The spokesperson noted that the campaign relies on students as key partners in energy conservation efforts, encouraging them to adopt responsible consumption practices on campus and transfer these behaviors to their communities, thereby promoting a broader culture of energy efficiency.

He added that the campaign includes a comprehensive set of awareness and interactive activities within universities, such as educational seminars, student competitions that encourage innovation in energy efficiency, and the application of practical measures to reduce energy consumption on campus.

Furthermore, the General Administration of the Media Office and the Official Spokesperson has prepared a series of awareness videos and visual materials (infographics) in preparation for a wide digital campaign across the Ministry’s official social media platforms. This will be carried out in full coordination with university media departments to ensure dissemination عبر official university and faculty pages, reaching the largest possible number of students.

It is also worth noting that the Leadership Development Institute, headed by Dr. Karim Hammam, Advisor to the Minister for Student Activities, will organize a series of events and student activities in coordination with universities and institutes to support student participation in the campaign, raise awareness of the importance of energy conservation, and promote positive behaviors related to the optimal use of resources.
