As part of efforts to support the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem within research centers, and in line with the directives of Dr. Abdelaziz Qansowa , Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasizing the importance of linking research outputs with the industrial and investment sectors as a key pillar for promoting a knowledge-based economy and achieving sustainable development—particularly in advanced and deep technology fields—the Metal Research and Development Center has launched the “Pitching Tour” initiative.
The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with Aria Ventures, as the Center hosted a delegation from the company to explore promising research projects with the potential to be transformed into startups, especially in deep-tech domains.
Dr. Ibrahim Ghayyad, Acting President of the Metal Research and Development Center, affirmed that the initiative aims to support researchers and empower them to transform their research ideas into practical applications and startup ventures. He noted that collaboration with specialized investment entities represents a significant step toward commercializing innovation and maximizing the impact of scientific research outcomes.
He further explained that this initiative reflects the Center’s strategic direction toward strengthening the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem and supporting researchers in converting their research outputs into applicable industrial products and technologies.
The visit included a series of pitching sessions, during which a number of researchers presented their projects, outlining the technical concepts, technology readiness levels, and opportunities for industrial and commercial application. The presentations covered a diverse range of advanced projects in areas such as advanced materials, nanotechnology, industrial waste recycling, energy, and various industrial applications.
The submitted projects are currently being evaluated by the Aria Ventures team to select a number of promising projects for further support and funding, with the aim of transforming them into entrepreneurial ventures with tangible economic and industrial impact.
It is also worth noting the role of the Center’s Industry Support and Entrepreneurship Office in linking research outputs with both the industrial and investment sectors, and in facilitating the transformation of research innovations into industrial applications and competitive startups. The office coordinated and organized the visit in collaboration with relevant departments within the Center, contributing to enhancing opportunities for researchers to present their ideas and projects to specialized deep-tech investment entities.
