As part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's efforts to enhance the performance of university hospitals and improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens, Ain Shams University Hospitals continued to play a vital role in delivering comprehensive medical and diagnostic services, achieving outstanding performance indicators during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. These results reflect the efficiency of the university hospital system and its essential role in healthcare delivery, alongside its educational and research missions.
Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, emphasized that university hospitals represent one of the fundamental pillars of Egypt's healthcare system and continue to provide integrated medical services to citizens. He noted that the performance indicators achieved during FY 2025/2026 demonstrate the efficiency of the hospitals' operations and the university's commitment to continuously improving healthcare services in line with the vision of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to enhance healthcare quality, expand the use of advanced medical technologies, modernize infrastructure, and support medical personnel, thereby strengthening the capacity of university hospitals to provide integrated healthcare, education, and research services.
The University President explained that performance indicators issued by the Medical Records and Statistics Administration revealed remarkable achievements across various healthcare services, reflecting the hospitals' advanced medical capabilities and highly qualified workforce, as well as their ability to meet the needs of patients from across Egypt.
During the fiscal year, Ain Shams University Hospitals received 739,048 patients at emergency departments and outpatient clinics, admitted 128,893 inpatient and day-case patients, and treated 34,033 patients in intensive care units. The hospitals also performed 31,351 surgical procedures across various specialties, in addition to handling 8,352 normal and cesarean deliveries.
The hospitals conducted 53,038 dialysis sessions, performed 7,621 endoscopic procedures, provided 12,459 psychiatric and psychological assessment services, and carried out 5,867 cardiac, cerebral, and vascular catheterization procedures.
Diagnostic services included 220,974 diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures, 78,529 ultrasound and duplex examinations, 89,944 electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiography services, 20,191 physical therapy sessions, 11,610 audiology and speech therapy services, and 3,852 electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction, and electromyography (EMG) studies.
In the field of oncology, the hospitals delivered 18,819 chemotherapy sessions and 9,574 radiotherapy and nuclear medicine sessions. Meanwhile, the medical laboratories and pathology departments demonstrated exceptional performance by conducting 7,461,160 laboratory tests and examinations, in addition to providing 10,336 pathology services, highlighting the hospitals' advanced diagnostic capabilities.
Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen reaffirmed the university's commitment to implementing its plans for the continuous development of its university hospitals through infrastructure modernization, expansion of specialized medical services, wider adoption of advanced medical technologies, and further enhancement of healthcare, educational, and research systems. These efforts aim to improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens while supporting the state's strategy for advancing Egypt's healthcare system.
For his part, Dr. Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Ain Shams University Hospitals, stated that the performance indicators achieved during the fiscal year reflect the tremendous efforts of the medical, nursing, technical, and administrative teams, as well as the hospitals' commitment to delivering comprehensive healthcare services in accordance with the highest standards of quality and patient safety.
He added that the hospitals continue to develop their therapeutic and diagnostic services, expand specialized medical fields, and modernize operational systems to improve performance efficiency and further enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens.
Dr. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals, affirmed that these achievements reflect the strong coordination and integration among the hospitals, departments, and medical units. He noted that continuous efforts are underway to further develop medical and diagnostic services and implement the latest quality standards to ensure the delivery of distinguished healthcare that meets patients' needs.
