As part of the ongoing efforts of university hospitals to provide advanced healthcare services in line with the latest international medical standards, the medical team at Alexandria University's Pediatric Cancer Hospital in Borg El Arab successfully performed a highly complex surgical procedure to remove an advanced neuroblastoma from a 16-year-old patient.
The university stated that the case was particularly rare, as this type of tumor typically does not occur at this age. The disease had also progressed significantly, with the tumor encasing major blood vesseشls and adhering to several vital organs, making the surgical intervention exceptionally challenging.
According to the university, the medical team implemented a comprehensive treatment plan that began with intensive chemotherapy, which successfully reduced the size of the tumor. This was followed by the complex surgical procedure, during which the team achieved complete gross resection of the tumor, paving the way for the remaining phases of treatment in accordance with the established medical plan.
